The fundraising campaign that has created the beautiful, state-of-the-art David B. Nichols Health Center has been a perfect example of how a public/private partnership can work together to solve regional problems. Major contributions came from federal and state grants, with significant support from four key foundations and the balance from generous private individuals, churches, community organizations and civic groups. All should be proud of an achievement that enhances the sustainability of this remarkable community.
Dr. Nichols and I had a dream that was realized after four years of planning and fundraising, combined with amazing gifts of time and expertise from professionals who donated a variety of services including legal, architectural, construction, accounting, and editorial services. It’s impossible to put a dollar value on the many hours the following people devoted to this project: Teresa Bush, Nancy Dykeman, Eric Finkbeiner, B.H.B.Hubbard, III, Esq., David Jones, Deborah Kelly, Davy Nichols, William D. Prillaman, William Westbrook.
In addition, we are grateful to the following for their invaluable donations of material resources toward the completion of the David B. Nichols Health Center: For blinds and window treatments, Andrew Kidwell, Jr. and Andrew Kidwell, III, MannKidwell; for design consulting, Ralph Higgins, Higgins & Gerstenmaier; for clinic signage Sandra Matthews, Creative DeSigns of Virginia; for telephone system installation and training, Mike Higgins, Susan Devor, Douglas Stone & Richard Towne; for the dedication program fans, Jess Banks and Merrie Cousins, Promotional Considerations; for linens, Mary Randolph Carter and Howard Berg.
